This collection contains a letter from Dufief about discounts for his 4th edition of "Nature Displayed in Her Mode of Teaching Language to Man" to the bookselling firm Beers & Howe in New Haven, Connecticut. This letter was written to find subscriptions for a new printing, and a fourth edition was published in 1820.It is folded for mailing with the address and return address on verso.

Biographical / Historical

Nicholas Gouin Dufief (1776-1834) was born in France and emigrated to Phladelphia in 1893 where he established himself as a bookseller and publisher. He opened a bookshop in 1801 and became Thomas Jefferson's bookseller and friend. Dufief consulted with Jefferson as he was conceiving his idea for "Nature Displayed." Jefferson was mentioned twice in the first edition of "Nature Displayed."
