Biographical / Historical
Edmund Withers was an Episcopal Church minister and itinerant missionary in Virginia as early as 1841, and his career is recorded in this personal record book that traces his ministry in Virginia and North Carolina via marriages, burials, baptisms, confirmations, and comunicants. Well-known Virginia names (e.g. Cary, Cabell, Carter, Meade, Michie, Taliaferro, Massie, Corbin, and Withers) appear repeatedly among others. He ministered to both white and "coloured," the records for each race being kept almost, though not quite totally on separate pages.
