Series 4: Currency (1839-1875; approx. 1.5 cubic feet) contains currency predominately from the Civil War period (1861-1865) issued by the United States and the Confederate States, including currency notes, fractional currency notes, postage currency notes, postage stamps, bonds, and treasury warrants. In addition, it also contains currency issued by southern states and local governments, southern banks (with the addition of the Farmers and Merchants Bank, Washington, D.C.), and corporate entities based in the south.
