Content Description

This addition to MSS 10582-g William Eppes Collection of Arts Memorabilia 1908-1998 contains two paintings (24” x 27.5” x 2”) from the personal collection of Eppes which hung at the WBHM radio station, a non-commercial public FM radio station in Birmingham, Alabama, for over forty years. William D. Eppes created the Eppes-Jefferson Foundation, which continues to support the radio station. The artist's signature is "Merlo" and they appear to be a twentieth-century artist. No other information on the artist, title, date, was found. The frames appear to be original to the works and may have some significance; they appear to be hand-hewn and vernacular. One picture is of a woman under an umbrella with what looks like tortillas and the other is a man sleeping under a cactus.
