This collection contains journal, transcript of the journal, photos, albumen prints, correspondence, drafts, translations, legal documents, maps, and two spear points documenting Thomas Nelson Berkeley Noland’s time in Peru. Noland’s journal documents his travels to the Peruvian Amazon from 1873 to 1874. The journal documents his work, travels and his observations and interactions with indigenous peoples of the Peruvian Amazon. It includes photographs pictures of items, places, and peoples in the Amazon. A transcript of the journal was created by family members and is part of the collection. Also included are various variations of a Map of Sections of South America (blueprints and traced copy) and several folders of correspondence and legal documents. Noland was from Hanover County, Virginia.
