Student Financial Services records
Content Description
This addition to RG-18/11 Office of Student Affairs contains reports, studies, Assessments, memos, and correspondence of the Student Financial Services at the University of Virginia. The earliest records are from 1969 to 1975 and document scholarships, trusts, and wills with restrictions on gender and race. This includes the identification of scholarships with race, religion, national origin, and gender discrimination, the final report on the Committee on Educational and Employment, Obligations, and Rights Opportunities (1969), and the final report on the Committee on Scholarships (1970), as well as a Future policy on Funds for Scholarships from President Edgar Shannon (1971). Documentation on a Financial Aid Impact Working Group dated 1994 reviews the impact of tuition increases and financial aid availability on African American students' recruitment, retention, and graduation. Also included are surveys, reports, and assessments from the “AccessUVA” project, a program that ensured all undergraduate students could afford tuition costs if they were admitted to the University, ranging from 2004 to 2014. Along with these records are eight signature printing plates with the University seal and the signature of Student Financial Services officials. Two labeled cards with taped plates identify the signees as Peter Munger and Ray C. Hunt, Jr.
