This collection contains papers of Lowell Weicker compiled by Steve Snider, a speechwriter on Weicker’s staff during his tenure as a United States Senator from Connecticut. The papers include annotated speeches written by Snider and edited by Weicker, photographs of Weicker with members of his staff and dignitaries, newspaper articles on Weicker’s Senate performance, two Joint Hearing Books on the care of institutionalized disabled persons, event programs, Weicker’s public financial disclosure forms, and press releases from Weicker’s office discussing fundraising and education. Also included is a 2023 article titled “Lowell Weiker in the Senate: An Appreciation,” written by Snider. Steven Snider, originally from Topeka, Kansas, worked in the U.S. Senate as a committee investigator, a special assistant to Senator Lowell Weicker, a special assistant to Senator Edward Kennedy, and communications director for Senator Carl Levin. He worked several years as a daily newspaper reporter in Missouri, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Washington, D.C. Snider received a Bachelor of Arts in urban studies in 1975 from the University of Maryland.
