Special Collections Library building reports
Content Description
This addition to RG-12/11 (University Library/Special Collections) contains three building reports and plans for the Special Collections Library at the University of Virginia. Input from committee members, requirements for the building, integration with existing libraries, and design characteristics are outlined throughout the reports. The earliest report is dated February 1997 and discusses the need for the new library to house collections already owned by the University and sizable collections then being donated. A "Design Narrative" report discusses the architectural characteristics of the building, with its semi-circular windows and other stylistic aspects emulating those incorporated in Thomas Jefferson's demolished Anatomical Theater that occupied the plot of land where the library quad now exists. Another report outlines the technical aspects of the planned building, titled "Valve Engineering Workshop Report."
