This collection contains research, drafts, proofs, appraisals, correspondence, card catalog, negatives, polaroid, slides, photographs, a visitors’ book, and a scrapbook documenting the scholarship and significant collection of North American maps of Seymour I. Schwartz. Along with the Schwartz’s research materials, the rest of his rare map collection of North America was given to the University of Virginia and is catalogued separately. These materials document his original manuscript, proofs, reproductions of illustrations, and a scrapbook for the Mapping of America, one of the best illustrated accounts of the cartographic history of North America. Also included are Schwartz’s research and personal cataloging of the maps in his collection. This includes title, source, appraisal, research and references for his maps.
