Content Description

This addition to RG 7/7 (School of Architecture/Student Papers) contains the teaching files of Michael Bednar, Professor Emeritus of Architecture for the School of Architecture at the University of Virginia. These teaching files contain information for ARCH 201, 301, 302, 401, 402, and 563, and are comprised of course rosters, syllabi, instructional materials, project descriptions and criteria, class activities, student work, correspondence, notes, photographs, and 35mm slides. Boxes 1-6 contain teaching files for the semester courses organized by the following years: Box 1, ca. 1973-1991; Box 2, ca. 1980-1999; Box 3, ca. 1993-2008; Box 4, ca. 2004-2006; Box 5, ca. 1998-2011; Box 6, ca. 1989-1997. Box 6 also contains a Programming and Feasibility Study on the Mount Vernon Plantation by the School of Architecture, dated 1979-1980.

This collection contains student works that fall under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). The collection requires an Archivist review to determine applicable access restrictions. In addition, original digital media (floppy disks, zip disks, thumb drives, born-digital files, etc.) and other media formats such as LPs, audiotapes, videotapes, films, CDs, and DVDs cannot be handled directly by patrons. Appointments must be made in advance to request these items held by Special Collections. In most cases, materials must be reformatted before they can be accessed, sometimes at the researcher’s expense.
