Content Description

This addition to RG-39, Office of Major Events, contains program overviews, copies of programs, addresses, speeches, and recordings from Fall convocation, Thomas Jefferson Awards, Finals Weekend, Founder's Day, Inauguration Day for the UVA Presidents, and dedication of buildings around grounds, and other one time events. The Fall Convocation, an award ceremony for scholarship and service awards, was renamed the Thomas Jefferson Award beginning in 2021 and presented in the Spring rather than the Fall semester. The collection contains Fall Convocation records from 1991 to 2019 and Thomas Jefferson Awards from 2021 to 2023. Finals Weekend is another term for the graduation ceremony at UVA, and this collection includes the Valedictory Exercises programs and Final Exercises programs, as well as addresses from 1979 to 2023. Founder's Day commemorates Mr. Jefferson's birthday, April 13th, and Thomas Jefferson Foundation Medals are presented in the following categories: Architecture, Citizen Leadership, Global Innovation, and Law. There are citations of the awards and remarks of award winners from 1976 and 1989-2023. Some notable recipients of this medal include Sandra Day O'Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
