Mountain Lake Biological Station records-addition 1

 Unprocessed Material — Multiple Containers
Identifier: ViU-2025-0030

Content Description

This addition to RG-6/9/3, School of Arts and Sciences/Department of Biology/Mountain Lake Biological Station, contains eighty-five hand drawings of botanical subject matter by the artist Lucile Walton (1902-2000) and one signed poster of the artist David M. Dennis. Walton was a watercolorist who illustrated, among other things, a column in Virginia Wildlife in the 1970s and 80s and was a station resident at the Mountain Lake Biological Station in Giles County, where she worked on science-related projects that included illustrating wildflowers and other botanical subjects. Most of the illustrations in this collection were created by Walton for articles written by Elizabeth Murray. The illustrations are of flowers and plants: fifty are in black-and-white ink, and thirty-five are in color. Many include a title on the back and the printer's notes. Walton's initials are included on some of the drawings. The poster is a drawing by David M. Dennis of a salamander and beetle on a patch of leaves. It was signed, dated, and displayed at the University of Virginia’s Mountain Lake Biological Station as Walton’s drawings of botanical subject matter.
