McGregor Room guest book
Content Description
The McGregor Room guest book contains signatures from visitors from 2018 to 2020, when the library was closed due to COVID-19 and the renovation. The guestbook is leather-bound, with the word Journal blind embossed on the cover. About one-fourth of the book is used. Visitors to the McGregor Room include, but are not limited to, UVA students and alums, students at other universities, and tourists. Signatures from guests may consist of full names, contact information, comments about the library space, Harry Potter references, mischievous and playful jokes, proverbs, and messages in different languages. There are a few drawings, one of which is inappropriate. Toward the end, signatures included messages that voiced concern about COVID-19. A small card by the A.N.G.E.L.S. Society, a secret society, is wedged between the pages containing a quote by Eleanor Roosevelt and reads, “You have to accept whatever comes and the only important thing is that you meet it with courage and with the best that you have to give.”
