 Unprocessed Material — Multiple Containers
Identifier: ViU-2024-0166

Content Description

This addition to RG-18/13, Office of Student Affairs/ Housing and Residence Life, contains print and poster reproductions of the engraving of the University of Virginia by Peter Maverick, mini and full Facebooks (yearbooks) of Lawn and Pavilion residents, reports on the architectural history of the Lawn and historical tour packets, and a boxed invitation to sponsored events by the Honor the Future campaign. Print reproductions of the Maverick Engravings of the Lawn are signed by Lawn and Pavilion residents on their respective room assignments in the engraving between the 2000s and 2010s. The signatures on the reproduction on a poster include names, room assignments, and short notes. The Facebooks contain biographical questions and answers from the 55 Lawn residents, 47 West Range residents, varying Pavilion occupants, and Upper Mews residents between the 2000s and 2010s. The questions ask about university involvements and favorite “secret,” or lesser known, locations and activities on Grounds, Charlottesville, or the neighboring area. Along with the Facebooks are three packets and reports on the history and architecture of the lawn for tours. A short packet is attached to a letter addressing hostess responsibilities for the University of Virginia Women’s Club Lawn Tour in 1991. The packet includes information compiled from “The Academical Village of Thomas Jefferson” by J. Murray Howard and notes and information compiled by the Virginia Women’s Club to summarize Pavilion architecture and history exclusively. There is a report on Pavilion V, part of a more extensive series on the structural history of Pavilions in the Academical Village. This report was printed between 1992 and 1994 and consists of an introduction, a summary, a section on the Jeffersonian Precinct, and a history. The final packet contains extensive information, such as residential history, construction and completion dates and costs, architectural information, additions and restorations, exterior and interior and layout details, garden information, stories, sketches of Pavilions, and additional information. A custom invitation for the Honor the Future Celebration is also included. Activities included faculty discussions, a seated lunch, an alumni panel, and a campaign address from President Jim Ryan.
