Content Description
This addition to MSS 14978, Martin Battestin papers, contains twenty-seven spiral-bound notebooks comprising the hand-written manuscript of Battestin's "Henry Fielding: A Life," published in 1989. Battestin labeled the covers of the notebooks into five parts, which are organized by Fielding's life, chronologically by year and period of his education and writing career. Part 1 consists of two notebooks that detail Fielding's life from 1707-1726. Part 2 contains eight notebooks documenting the period 1727-1739. Part 3 includes nine notebooks documenting the period from 1739-1749. Part IV comprises eight notebooks documenting the period from 1749-1754. Of these eight notebooks, the last five are labeled Part IV (Cont) and labeled with letters A to E. The final notebook is labeled "Part IV (Cont) E and Part V. Some notebooks have typed notes to a woman named Barbara tipped in about the manuscript.
