Content Description

This addition to MSS 15909 Kay Slaughter papers contains nomination forms, newspapers, clippings, photographs, correspondence, brochures, and pamphlets collected by Kay Slaughter. The bulk of the collection pertains to the Charlottesville Bridge Builders award information. The Bridge Builders award, sponsored by the Human Rights Commission of Charlottesville, was established in 1998 to recognize notable community members: posthumous and living. Included are nomination forms, correspondence, programs, photographs, booklets, clippings, and programs for the award events. In addition to the materials related to the Bridge Builders program, there is a letter from John Covington to Robert Slaughter, dated February 21, 1837; copies of Cville Weekly and The Hook ranging from 1999 to 2019 with articles related to Kay Slaughter and the Bridge Builder program; and a variety of political event programs and brochures. Katherine "Kay" Slaughter is a former member of the Charlottesville City Council who was an attorney at the Southern Environmental Law Center. She served as mayor of Charlottesville from 1996 to 1998.
