Content Description

This addition to RG 31/7/3, Facilities Management/Buildings and Properties/ Keepsakes contains two coins found under the marble plinth on the south elevation Rotunda during phase I of the plaza deck repair done in 2000-2001. One is a two-cent coin from 1865 with the initials J.M.B. inscribed on one side and '97 on the other. The other is a one-cent coin from 1879, with the initials C.H.W. marked on one side and '97 on the other. There is a possibility these were undergraduate students from the class of 1897: J. Miller Bonner from Camden, Alabama, and Charles W. Harlan from Charlottesville, VA.
