Content Description

This addition to RG 27/3/1 (Athletics/ Director for Intramurals and Recreation/ Photographs) contains photographs, negatives, slides, a report, posters, certificates, CDs, and VHS tapes documenting intramural sports, student fitness activities, and sporting events at the University of Virginia between 1985 and 2009. Activities represented include kayaking, hiking, ropes course, rock climbing, canoeing, rafting, camping, flag football, basketball, hockey, lacrosse, aikido, fitness programs, as well as programs like Club Sports, Family Rec Day, and Dogwood tennis, among others. There are also photographs documenting the construction of gyms and related buildings, including the Aquatic and Fitness Center and the North Grounds Recreation Center. Also included are a report and documents related to the Strategic Planning task force for the Department of Athletics documents, certificates awarded to Mark Fletcher, associate director of athletics and executive director of intramural/recreational sports at the University of Virginia from 1985-2009, and an oversized folder containing a poster in memory of Fletcher. The two VHS are recordings titled "Wellness Fitness Awareness Day, 10/12/1985" and "Patrons entering facilities, Mem Gym, weight room." The CDS contains flyers, contacts, FAQs, and other documents related to the Recreation Center and pictures of Fletcher.
