Harvey Coger Zion Lodge Charity Department certificate
Content Description
This collection contains a membership certificate issued by Charity Department of the T.T.G.O.T.G.A.T.U. From the Grand East of the Masonic Workshops of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Ancient York Masons (National Compact), Prince Hall origin, America, Europe, Asia, Africa, England. for Harvey Coger of the Zion Star Masonic Lodge No. 5 in Boissevain, Virginia. The certificate has a portrait illustration and a Masonic seal. It is dated August 2, 1918 and was issued by the “order of the M.W. Mt. Olive Grand Lodge F. & A. A. U. of Va.” It notes, "This is to certify that Harvey Coger of Zion Star Lodge No.5 is a member of the Charity Department of the above-named Grand Lodge, and has taken the sublime degree of a Master Mason.” The signatures of the Lodge Chairman, Secretary, and Trustees, as well as Cozer’s signature and witnesses, appear at the bottom of the certificate, alongside the signatures of three witnesses. The certificate also states that Coger’s wife, Maggie E. Coger, could use it to receive benefits from the Lodge following his death.
