Content Description

This addition to MSS 12742, Edward Younger papers, contains the work and life of Edward Younger, Professor of History from 1942-1979, and the materials collected by Barbara Younger, his wife, after his death. The collection contains photographs, date books, calendars, clippings, notebooks, correspondence, notes, speeches, pamphlets, memos, biographical information, booklets, Younger's passport, teaching and death certificate, military records, and an audiocassette. The family photographs include those taken at 4 Dawson's Row in the 1950s and pictures of Mildred Kauffman's kindergarten, which Ellen Younger, their daughter, attended. There is also significant material from a lecture tour in India in the early 1960s, which includes photographs, correspondence, clippings, and notebooks. There are clippings about Edward Younger and his work, biographical writings written at the time of Younger's retirement and death. The audiocassette is of Naming of the Edward Younger House and Others on January 27, 1984. Also included are a receipt from 1897, a child's patent leather shoe, a white knit stocking, and a few other fabric pieces found at the University of Virginia's Pavilion X attic in 1967 and kept by Barbara Younger.
