Dr. Minor Carson Lile photo album
Content Description
This collection contains one leather-bound photo album created by Dr. Minor Carson Lile between 1909 and 1917. It includes thirty-nine black and white photographs, many with captions or initials. His father, William Minor Lile, was the first Dean of the University of Virginia Law School from 1896-1936. Minor Carson Lile lived in Pavilion X with his family for his first twenty years. He attended the University of Virginia, where he played baseball, and eventually went on to practice medicine. Photographs include images of the Routuna, Pavilion X, Birdwood. a baseball game at Lambeth Field with Minor playing third base, family photographs of the Liles participating in activities on the Lawn, formal photographs of Minor and his future wife Gretchen, and an on-field capture of the Virginia at Georgetown football game on November 13, 1909. During this game, Virginia running back Archer Christian sustained a fatal head injury as a result of a tackle. An "x" is placed above Christian's head in the photograph.
