Content Description

This addition to the Cumming Family papers (MSS 6922) includes documents, letters, photographs, daguerreotypes, scrapbooks, memorabilia, correspondence, and certificates related to members of the Cumming family. The items include Hugh Cumming, Jr.'s service in the United States Department of State, and materials related to Hugh Cumming, Sr.'s study at the University of Virginia and Hugh Cumming, Jr.'s study at the Virginia Military Institute. Other items include 11 daguerreotypes along with notes and commentary of Cumming family ancestors, and scrapbooks of Hugh Cumming, Jr., Lucy Booth Cumming, Winifred Burney West Cumming, and Diana Cumming. Box 1 contains documents, correspondence, ephemera, Hugh Cummings’s service certificates, clippings, and photographs. Box 2 contains correspondence, travel documents, White House invitations, the memorial scrapbook of Winifred Burney West Cumming, Hugh Cumming’s 1893 copy of Corks and Curls, and the Virginia Military Institute Roster, Class of 1921. Box 3 contains three small oversize folders of photographs and posters. Box 4 contains Diane Cumming's Memorial and Friendship scrapbook and Baby Days Scrapbook of Hugh Cumming. Box 5 contains framed photographs with inscriptions on the back. Box 6 contains Booth Family daguerreotypes and a photograph. Box 7 contains The Baby Biography of Lucy Booth Cumming.
