Content Description

This addition to RG 30/1/11 (Administration, Operations, and Extraneous Records/Documentary Prints/Miscellaneous) features twelve phototype prints of the University of Virginia and surrounding sites published by Whitman's Phototype of Canton, Pennsylvania. Each image (3.5" X 2.25") has a caption on the back with the name of the architectural site or feature being depicted. Although undated, the title "New Alderman Library" of one of the images suggests the pictures date from the late 1930s to the early 1950s. Sites photographed include New Alderman Memorial Library, Clark Hall as the "New Law Building," New Dormitories, the Serpentine Wall, the Rotunda, Memorial Gymnasium, Thornton Hall as the "Engineering Building," the Medical School Building, Monticello, and Ash Lawn.
