Content Description
This addition MSS 15712, Charles Vandersee Papers, contains drafts of poems by Vandersee created between the mid-1970s to the 1990s. Charles Vandersee (1938-2003) was a professor of English at the University of Virginia, where he taught for thirty-three years. His areas of expertise were American literature and poetry, and he assisted in editing multiple volumes of The Letters of Henry Adams. From 1973-1997, he was dean of the University's Echols Scholars program. Vandersee was also a Fellow of the Society for Values in Higher Education (SVHE). At a 2002 Festival of Faith and Writing, he participated in a panel organized by SVHE to discuss the significance of writing in liberal education and moral formation.
