Content Description
This addition to MSS 15641, the Arthur F. Stocker papers, contains professional correspondence, lectures, a photo, and clippings of Arthur Stocker. Stocker (1914-2010) was a Professor of Classics at the University of Virginia from 1946 to 1984. He served as the chair of the university's classics department between 1955 and 1963, later advancing to become an associate dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences from 1962 until 1966. This collection includes materials from 1955 and 1979 and contains lectures delivered by Stocker, and correspondence with universities about speaking engagements and writings on his work in the classics. Two manuscript copies of "Tu Regere Memento" are present as well as "Vergil in Augustus Service" and several clippings from the Cavalier Daily and Daily Progress that discuss Stocker’s various promotions within the College of Arts and Sciences.
