Content Description

This addition to RG 12, University Library records, contains materials related to the Alderman Library study spaces including correspondence, policies, diagrams of the study spaces, and meeting notes from the Faculty Studies Committee. The bulk of the addition is correspondence from University Librarian Ray Frantz to the University Provost David Shannon and faculty members across the university. These letters discuss the issue of faculty study spaces within the Alderman Library. Included are the criteria for which faculty members would be issued this study space. Several Alderman Library fifth-floor study spaces diagrams from 1973 to 1988 labeled with major collections, pre-reserved study space, and projected future study space use. These are annotated with notes and names of those assigned spaces. Study space reassignment letters from the mid-1980s to the 1990s are included. A series of 1992 letters from Frantz asked faculty who held study spaces to relinquish their space to accommodate the then-new Academical Village computing project. Some faulty members opposed this and sent letters to Frantz requesting to retain their space. Also included are
