Content Description

This addition to RG 30/1 Administration, Operations, and Extraneous Records/ Photographs contain slides created and used by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at the University of Virginia. The photographs range from 1967 to 1991 and document University academic buildings, dormitories, student life, graduation ceremonies, the Lawn, Rotunda, and sports. A few of the slides have some information written on the slide regarding the content of the image; however, many do not. There are detailed views of each Pavilion along the Lawn as well as the Colonnade and adjacent chapel. The Rotunda, Lawn, and Pavilion Gardens are chronicled through various seasons. Photographs of the Serpentine Wall along the Lawn are also included. The President's House on Carr's Hill documents an array of tulips planted adjacent to the home. Photographs of The Corner through the 1980s and 1990s feature the businesses, restaurants, and bars frequented by students and community members. Portraits of students and facility members along the Lawn and other places are also present in this collection. Lawn Room interiors and exteriors as they existed in the 1980s are documented. Photographs of students moving into first-year dormitories are dated 1991. Various student activities are documented, including club sports, club registration, theatrical productions, and musical performances. University of Virginia sports photographed include football, basketball, tennis, soccer, track, and lacrosse. Seven slides of artwork by an unknown artist are also included in the collection. There are numerous duplicates that were retained.
