Scope and Contents

The papers of John Norton Moore were given to the University of Virginia School of Law Library in three installments.

The first one, concerning the Gulf of Maine case before the International Court of Justice were given to the Library in December of 1985. The collection (in 5 cartons) includes Moore's personal notes and correspondence, copies of Department of State correspondence and working documents, and annotated copies of drafts of the records presented to the ICJ by the U. S. Team. Donated with the personal files were a set of printed ICJ documents, miscellaneous prirnted materials relating to the Gulf of Maine case, and assorted maps of the ocean.

Addedum MSS 85-17a was given in the Summer of 1995. Consists of 4 boxes, principally of files about the conflict in Central America (Nicaragua and El Salvador), with which Prof. Moore was very interested and involved.

Addemdum MSS 85-17b was given to the library in January of 2020. This addition consists of 22 archival boxes that relate to the Law of the Sea, Law and National Security, International Law, Human Rights Files, Center for Oceans Law and Policy and Center for National Security Law, teaching files, other Law School miscellaneous, personal and digital files.
