This accession consists of materials belonging to Water O. Klingman, a neurologist at the University of Virginia. The papers includes lecture notes, personal correspondence, research files, and various materials from professional associations, pharmaceutical and equipment companies, and Klingman’s military service. Note that there is no Box 3.

Biographical / Historical

Walter Oscar Klingman (May 4, 1900-September 27, 1979) served in the US Army Air Force Medical Corps as a Lieutanent Colonel from 1942-1946. He was a former professor at the College of Physicians & Surgeons at Colubia University in NY. UVA graduate, Walter O. Klingman, returns from Columbia to chair the Neurology section from 1947-1955. As an Associate Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry, he was promoted to Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry as of July 1, 1951. Klingman would later help found the American Academy of Neurology and serve as its 4th President.Klingman announced that as of June 1, 1957, he would leave UVA take a position at the University of Texas.
