Biographical / Historical

Jean Sorrells-Jones has been a leader in nursing education, community health and clinical nursing practice. She completed her doctoral studies at the University of Chicago and holds bachelor's and master's degrees respectively in nursing and maternal-child nursing from the University of Colorado. She was the University of Virginia’s director of nursing and chief patient care services officer from 1987 to 1997. Sorrells-Jones went on to develop an MSN program at the University of Texas and a BSN program at Longwood University.
