Biographical / Historical
Photographs by Florence Hauser These photographs were made on assignment with the Virginia Children’s Connection at the Bagaria Clinic in Giridih, in the state of Bihar,India in January 2000. The VCC and the International Rotary club has sponsored surgeons and staff from the University of Virginia Medical Center for over a dozen years to perform surgery in a free clinic primarily for the benefit of Children with cleft lip deformity. Because of the popularity of the program, many patients present themselves with other traumas such as severe burn scars. As many patients as possible, usually around one hundred, are treated in the week to ten days that the team is at the clinic.
