Bessie's friendship album

Content Description This collection contains one friendship album with pink, yellow, and blue colored pages filled with verse, inscriptions, and original drawings and illustrations. The inscription at front reads: "To Bessie, Wishing her many happy returns of her birthday with love from Lena & Will, August 13, [19]08."

Christine Best friendship album

Content Description This collection contains a single book with 29 pages of inscriptions, autographs, and verse dated between 1839-1841, from Hudson New York. The first inscription was written by Christine Best, owner of the album, and includes a color illustration and title, "Christine Best's Book Hudson July 22, 1839." Original black leather embossed boards, highly decorated; red leather spine with gilt decoration.

Lucy Bruce friendship album

Content Description A ladies album belonging to Lucy Bradbury Bruce of Worcester County, Massachusetts which contains five engraved plates, sentiments from friends and family, three calligraphy drawings, and a watercolor theorem of a rose. Most of the well wishes are signed and dated, and many include locations. Predominately the locations and many of the signers are women including two of her sisters.

Content Description This collection contains a friendship album belonging to Pamelia Jenne of Charlton, Massachusetts. The album, a copybook, "Sold by Samuel Wood & Sons, New York," is here used as a friendship album. It contains thirty-eight pages of manuscript and one watercolor of flowers. Content Description This collection consists of one volume. An elaborate sketched title "Mary C. Jones Album," is the first page used; 79 pages used for hand-written inscriptions, verse, and literature, including some calligraphy. Signatures from Providence, "Washington Ball," and New York. The inscriptions are mostly addressed to "Caroline." Marbled paper over boards with red leather spine and red leather board edges; red leather label with gilt stamped name "Mary C. Jones" on the front cover.

Content Description This collection contains a friendship album for Mollie Virginia Rinker of Leesburg, Louden County, Virginia. The album contains poems, drawings, sentiments and tokens of affection compiled mostly during the Civil War and just after. The final page in the album is damaged; an image or text was cut from the book leaving a large hole in the page.

Frances Eleanor Poole commonplace book

Content Description This collection contains a commonplace book written in by Frances Eleanor "Fannie" Poole and her classmates at the Frederick Female Seminary in Maryland. The book includes a frontispiece, engraved title page, and additional plates. Poole wrote "this side up," beneath her inscription, but the binding is upside down. Poole died at the age of nineteen in 1860, four years after the last dated entry in the book. The book has heavy foxing on the plates and pages were torn from the book.

Content Description This collection consists of three commonplace books belonging to Harriet "Hatty" S. Rowley, of Utica, New York. The books are nicknamed the Books of Wisdom and ignorance in part because one notebook was titled "Ignorance Book," by Rowley, while the other two books were labeled with the following note, “Aunt Harriet’s books of wisdom.” These books hold recordings of quotes from famous authors and orators of the late 19th century, and as such they are full of "wisdom" and advice on life. ...

Content Description This collection contains a commonplace book of Mary M. Russell. The first entry, signed "Mortimer," and dated Rose Mont, August 7, 1844," is a kind of paean to "The Album" itself. Book includes engraved images, verses, drawings, and handwritten entries with place names, including Virginia, Washington, and Maryland. Laid in hand-lettered piece of music, "We no more," addressed to Miss Mary Russell.

Content Description This collection contains one volume belonging to Lauren A. Wright of Hebron, Connecticut, with 67 pages of inscriptions, prose, and drawings. An intricate calligraphy inscription reads "Calvin H. Phelps to Miss Laura A. Wright, Hebron." Dates for inscriptions range from 1830 to 1860, with the majority written in the 1830's and 1840's. Locations written in the book include Hebron, Hartford, Glastenbury, Belchertown, New Haven, Columbia, and West Dennis, Connecticut.
