Scope and Contents

Summary: The Black Bales Collection represents the experiences of a nursing student and the School of Nursing at the University of Virginia c. 1959. There are three folders which were the contents of a scrapbook that Bales compiled while she was a nursing student. These folders contain nursing student information sheets, notes, publications and announcements. They also have information regarding the School of Nursing and the University of Virginia such as maps, cards, and brochures. The third folder contains the more personal documents from this collection which are photographs, cards, correspondence and mementos from activities that Bales attended while she was a student. Also of importance to this collection are the garment articles which include: an apron, a blue dress, nursing caps, starched bands for the caps, and a nurse’s bib. These are all in good condition except for the dress which has been altered.
