Scope and Contents
This volume contains notes by William Preston bearing dates of March and April of 1883 on Walsh v. Preston, as argued before the United States Supreme Court on 13 March 1883. This case concerned a pre-statehood land grant in Texas that was heard by the US Fifth Circuit in 1879 and the US Supreme Court in 1882. After the notes are case materials and Preston’s notes on earlier opinions of the Texas Fifth Circuit Court and the US Supreme Court regarding the Texas Association case.

William Preston (1816-1887) represented the Texas Association, a joint stock company, in a claim related to a land grant in northern Texas, originally granted to Charles Fenton Mercer by the state of Texas.
