One manuscript contains part of the concluding paragraph which tells of a meeting of officers at the Colonel’s Quarters where a “brilliant young soldier’s fault was tenderly condoned and where every man enshrined in his memory an ideal of a soldier’s wife and the Colonel returned Dick’s sword to him."
