Content Description

This addition contains T-shirts, committee reports, proposals, surveys, petitions, clippings from various newspapers including The Cavalier Daily, brochures, a letter from Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida regarding the Unite the Right Rally in 2017, and a floppy disk documenting the work of the LGBTQ student center. Files on the disk include agendas from 1998 to 1999, letters working to address the harassment of the LGBTQ community during the "Good Old Song" singing, and various research and reports on resources at academic institutions for the LGBTQ community. Also included are two two Franklin E. Kameny posters posters, and a "Homophile" sign.

This collection contains two digital files that have a virus and are restricted. The rest of the collection is open for research and minimally processed. Original digital media (floppy disks, zip disks, thumb drives, born digital files, etc.) cannot be handled directly by patrons. Please be aware that additional actions may be required to make these items available. Items will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis before access can be made. Historical Note

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Questioning (LGBTQ) Center at the University of Virginia seeks to foster the development of LGBTQ+ students, faculty, staff, alumni, and allies. Founded under the Office of the Dean of Students in 2001, with support from the Serpentine Society, the LGBTQ Center works to raise awareness and inclusion of sexual and gender diversities through programs, outreach, and services that support the advancement of the LGBTQ+ community.
