Scope and Contents

Susan Arabella Kennerly Johnson letter to her aunt, .03 cubic feet, 1863, about a raid by the 1st Virginia Cavalry, Company E, in which two of her brothers, John Thomas Kennerly (1837-1882) and James William (Willie) Kennerly (1843-?) participated with Fitzhugh Lee. She also mentions that two of her father's (the Reverend Samuel Kennerly) slaves were sent to Richmond to work on earthen defenses.

Susan Arabella "Belle" Kennerly Johnson, wife of the Reverend Blassingame Harvey Johnson and daughter of Reverend Samuel Kennerly. Reverend Johnson was a Confederate supporter and Methodist Circuit Rider for Eastern Virginia during the war.
