An autographed signed letter from James Boswell to Andrew Gibb December 5, 1792 about receiving boxes, rent, and giving his son James Boswell money.

An autographed signed 4 page letter from James Boswell to Andrew Gibb, (the overseer at his Auchinleck estate) May 31, 1793 discussing road repairs, horse breeding, and lumber sales. London.

An autograph signed letter from James Boswell to Thomas Percy April 16, 1773 inviting Percy to dine at his lodgings with Joshua Johnson and Dr. Goldsmith.

An autograph signed letter from James Boswell to John Wauchope March 19, 1781 about legal and Parliamentary matters.

An autograph signed letter from Samuel Johnson to Henry Thrale June 29, 1769 about the birth of Thrale's daughter and Johnson being named her Godfather.

An autograph note signed in the third person from Samuel Johnson to Elizabeth Way November 23, 1784 explaining that his very ill and thanking her for her kindness and wishes her happiness.

This collection was part of a gift that did not get appraised and was purchased from Sarah Ruxin by the Small Special Collections Library at the University of Virginia Library on May 11, 2021.It was combined with 5 letters in the Paul T. Ruxin collection of James Boswell, Samuel Johnson and their Circle collection which was a gift from Joanne Camy Ruxin on March 14, 2019.
