Content Description
This addition to MSS 10973 - John D. Casey Papers contains manuscripts, correspondence, photographs, printed and clipped articles, and personal papers pertaining to the writing career and personal life of John Dudley Casey (1939–2025), American novelist and longtime professor of creative writing at the University of Virginia. The addition includes typed and handwritten manuscripts at various stages of editing, among them a manuscript identified as "Lyne," an unfinished novel, a novel set in Washington, D.C., and a folder of “works in progress.” Also present is a handwritten notebook from 2007–2008 containing Casey's notes with laid-in note sheets, as well as a typed manuscript on early twentieth-century literary history. Correspondence spans circa 1969–2008 and includes typed and handwritten letters to Casey from publishers, professors, fans, family members, and other individuals connected to his literary career. An additional folder of fan mail dating from circa 1969–1984 is also present. Printed and clipped articles document critical reception of Casey's work and include correspondence related to reviews, photographs of Casey, and news clippings, dating from circa 1978 to 2016. Photographs include images of Casey and his family, including photographs taken for use by University of Virginia Information Services. Also present is a 1966 certificate admitting Casey as an attorney and counsellor of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.
