Margaret Trafford editorial cartoon
Content Description
This collection contains one cartoon by Margaret Trafford (1899-1949), an early twentieth-century illustrator and cartoonist. The image is on paper with pen and ink, lithograph pencil, and white gouache with Trafford's signature in the lower left. It measures 10.5 X 11.75, and a typed caption is glued to an original window mat. The cartoon was likely for Life magazine. Trafford's images often reflected a dry wit. The image is of two women having tea in a garden. The caption reads, "We have to pollinate the amaryllis; they won't do it themselves." The stunned look on the prim guest's face, when the topic of sex is implied, contrasts the host's casual dress and speech.
