J. Murray Howard records-addition 2
Content Description
This addition to RG 31/9, Facilities Management/ J Murray Howard records, contains photographs of University of Virginia furnishings compiled by J. Murray Howard. Howard served for two decades as an architect for the historic buildings and grounds at the University. Throughout the Lawn restoration, which began in 1984, Howard presided over the restoration of five of the ten pavilions Jefferson designed as faculty homes and classrooms and thirty-seven single rooms that students live in. This collection contains a 1986 Rotunda Furnishing Record conducted by Howard, with each entry including a photograph of the subject, its title, the year created, and the piece's provenance, and a 1993 University Collections Inventory, with sizes and other descriptors of furniture handwritten by Howard alongside their photographs. Also present are "loose decorate arts photographs and negatives" and an "office set of prints and negatives." Howard retired from the University of Virginia in 2002 and died in 2008.
