Scope and Contents

Topics include a request to help in the administration of the estate of Dr. McClurg (March 2, 1839); fears about the possible death of his son, Thomas, in [Mississippi?] (June 22, 1839); instructions about the purchase of summer clothing for the enslaved laborers by Alvis (April 21, 1840); mention that there are 70 enslaved laborerss associated with the “Rocky Mills” plantation of Edmund Wickham and 40 additional enslaved laborers associated with his father’s [John Wickham] estate (July 28, 1842). Much of the correspondence in general deals with the settling of the estate of John Wickham (1763-1839).
